I woke up pretty late on Saturday...that's the Chilean way. Francisco was out until 8am and he slept the entire day. He woke up for about an hour to have a GREAT lunch of pasta with meat sauce. I have been really happy with the food so far. I took the metro over to my friend Esteban's house. He was the captain of the basketball team at UAH last year so we got in touch through the University. He is a really nice guy. He emailed me and offered to watch the Eagles or go to a pub or the pool or something and helped me out with my questions about basketball. He was really helpful and kind I thought he might have been trying to hit on me. But he is just a really cool dude. Most people in Chile go out of their way to make you feel welcome and comfortable. I got over to his place around 4ish. I represented America and beat him in a game of Madden and we watched the playoff games.
We went to Burger King for dinner and met up with a some of the girls from my class. Esteban was in his glory! It was me, Esteban and about 12 girls...no wonder the Chileans are so nice to the American guys right? Esteban's family has a really nice apartment looking out to the Andes...beautiful. Esteban's friend came over (I'm not too good with names) and he was also really cool and nice. He is from Argentina and said any of us could stay with his family if we travel there. It was a really fun night.
We hung out at Esteban's place and around 3am a lot of the girls decided to go out into town but I didn't really feel like it because I live farther away and I wanted to get some sleep. Esteban's friend offered to drive home two other girls because he lives close to them and he said he could take me to a bus stop so I could catch a ride home. Apparently the buses don't come as often when it is that late. We saw a bus on the road and we quickly went to the next bus stop, they dropped me off to catch the bus and drove away.
The bus passed right by. I was at a stop that wasn't used at night...well I should rephrase that...it was used...just not as a bus stop. I looked behind me and their were two women with low-cut shirts and fishnet stockings. They asked me a few questions (mostly slang that I didn't understand) and I politely said "no gracias" to all of them. I asked them about the bus and they said it would stop soon...but it didn't. I waited a little longer until I heard a bottle break about 100 meters away and saw a man stumbling down the sidewalk...so I bid farewell to my new Chilean acquaintances at the stop and went down the road in the opposite direction of the activity. I called Esteban and he told me where to go to get the bus and it was all smooth sailing from there. I got back to my house just fine and got to bed around 5am...I think I will have permanent jet-lag if I keep my this crazy schedule!
